NJ Physicians ACO has been accepted to participate, by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as an Accountable Care Organization participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) created by the Affordable Care Act.


  • Incorporate a new entity and submit a notice of intent to CMS to participate and sign agreements with the ACO entity: DONE.

  • Solicit participation from physicians and other providers to participate and sign agreements with the ACO entity.  DONE.

  • Complete and submit an MSSP application to CMS by July 31st deadline: Done.

  • Application to be reviewed by CMS and adjudicated by late fall: DONE AND APPROVED.

  • The program start date is January 1, 2014: READY.

Primary Goals

  • To improve the health care of the community while controlling costs.

  • Focus on improving care coordination by primary care doctors to achieve the cost and quality objectives.

  • Strategically position NJ Physicians ACO and its providers to respond to healthcare delivery and payment reform.

  • Develop the competencies and resources necessary to develop a viable model for managing cost, improving quality, and improving the patient care experience.

  • Partner with various payors to spread the benefit of this enhanced model across all patients.
